ZACH QUALIFY’S FOR BRITISH LONG COURSE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Cleethorpes & District Swimmer Zach Amin took to
the water on the 27th & 28th January at the Gateshead
& Whickham Open Meet held at Ponds Forge International Pool, Sheffield with
the aim of qualifying for the British Long Course Championships to be held at
Manchester’s Commonwealth Games swimming pool from 26th March to 1st
April.
The 15 year old swimmer from Brigsley was not to
disappoint coming home on his favoured event the 200 breaststroke in a time of
2.35.83 which gained him qualification by half a second.
Zach will now get to compete against some of the
countries top swimming stars as he bids to qualify for the European Junior
Championships or the European Youth Olympic festival. The British Long Course
Championships are used as selection trials for these two events. Zach will also
get the opportunity to swim in time trials in the morning session at the event
where he will be doing 100 Breaststroke, 200 & 400 IM having just missed
out on qualifying for these events he will be aiming of qualifying for the
events at the champs which will be held in the afternoon.
Zach has put in some tremendous work this year having
had a tough time last year with illness he has come back stronger than ever to
emulate our two other previous qualifier’s for this event (Ashley Davies &
Samantha Wilson).
To be swimming those kind of times at this time of
year when we are in Heavy training is a tremendous achievement and testament to
the hard work he has put in. This swim
ranks him 7th in the country for his age and anything will be
possible once we get to the event in March having proven before that he is a
big event swimmer.
