Cleethorpes Swimmers Dominate in Lincs League Gala

The swimmers of Cleethorpes & District Swimming Club – CASA Red - took to the water at the Castle Sports Centre in Spalding on Saturday 10th May to compete in the second round of the Lincs League. Having won their round one gala they were hoping for a repeat in order to set up the chance of overall victory in the third and final round to be held in June.

Competing against five other clubs over 48 events the Cleethorpes swimmers did not disappoint and were in impressive form winning 22 events and coming second in a further 16. This resulted in the club leading throughout and ending the night with a massive total of 247 points. The nearest challenger was City of Lincoln Pentaqua A with 194 points.

There were strong performances throughout the team with multiple individual wins being achieved by Leah Altoft (Open 100 breast, 14 /U 100 back and 14/U 100 breast), Georgia Cragg (12/U 50 back and 12/U 50 breast) and Sophie Cragg (10/U 50 fly and 10/U 50 free).

Other individual winners were Oliver Webster (12/U 50 breast), Charlotte Steels (Open 100 fly), Callum Gladding (12/U 50 fly), Sophie Thompson (10/U 50 breast), Thomas Paine (14/U 100 fly) and Sophie Long (14/U 100 fly).

In the relays the team did not place outside the top three all night recording 9 victories, 5 second places and one third place. Excellent performances by the 12/U boys team (Oliver Webster, James Burke, Ryan Catley and Callum Gladding), the 12/U girls team (Savannah Cheung, Georgia Cragg, Molly Unwin and Maisie Legge), the 14/U girls team (Sophie Long, Leah Altoft, Lily Thompson and Francesca Stanford) and the girls open team (Charlotte Steels, Leah Altoft, Sophie Long and Steph Gladding) saw them winning both the 4 x 50m freestyle relays and 4 x 50m medley relays.

The 10/U girls team (Lucy Martin, Sophie Thompson, Sophie Cragg and Michaela Stanford) won their medley relay and in a very tight race were just beaten to the finish in the freestyle event by Pentaqua.

Chief Coach Nathan Hilton said “This was a great team performance with strong swims throughout the team. I was particularly pleased with the relay results which really demonstrated our strength in depth and sets us up for an exciting final round in June”.

The final round of the league will be held on 28th June in Lincoln where CADS will be going head to head against Lincoln Vulcans, the team that has dominated the Lincs league for over ten years.
