CASA Close Gap on Vulcans in Lincolnshire Swimming League Final

The final of the Lincs Swimming League took place at Yarborough Leisure Centre in Lincoln on 27th June. Six teams were competing in the final; defending champions Lincoln Vulcans, CASA Red, Louth, CASA Green, South Lincs and City of Lincoln Pentaqua,

Up against a strong Vulcans team, CASA Red achieved 11 first places on the night and finished in the top 3 placing for most of the races. This was an improvement on last year but not enough to beat Lincoln Vulcans who showed impressive form to win 25 events. This meant that CASA Red finished a strong second and saw Vulcan’s retain their Lincs League title.

The first CASA Red win came from the girls 14yrs & under 4 x 2 Medley Relay team of Georgia Cragg, Leah Altoft, Sophie Long & Francesca Stanford. Savannah Cheung recorded new personnel best time swimming her way to top spot in the girls 12yrs 50 Backstroke.  The 12yrs old boys team of Charlie Spencer, Oliver Webster, James Burke & Ryan Catley, produced a double whammy by recording wins in both the Freestyle 4 x 2 relay and 4 x 2 Medley Relay. In the 12 years individual events, Oliver won the 50m Breaststroke, and James took the laurels in the 50m Butterfly.

A strong performance by Leah Altoft in the girls 14yrs 100m Breaststroke and 100m Backstroke saw her win by a clear margin, also securing a new personnel best time the 100 Backstroke. 14yrs old Thomas Paine put in an excellent performance to win the Open 100m Butterfly with a new personnel best time.

Sam Legge gave his all the 10 yrs 50M Backstroke to be rewarded with a 1st place and a new personnel best time. A change of team for the 14yrs 4 x 50M Freestyle relay saw Leah Altoft, Zoe Lansley-Hogg, Francesca Stanford and Sophie Long comfortably win their race.

There were many excellent performances and new personnel best times on the night, too numerous to mention them all. Although only the first place swimmers are listed above, the whole team should be congratulated on their efforts, up against some stiff competition.

 The Final score : Lincoln Vulcans :  244.5   CASA Red : 208  Louth : 183  CASA Green : 137  South Lincs : 128  City of Lincoln Pentaqua : 100.5
