CADS Reign in Spain

Further evidence of the success being enjoyed by Cleethorpes & District Swimming Club (CADS) came with the news that four of their swimmers have been selected by the Yorkshire Swimming Association to attend a training camp to be held in Spain in February.

Only sixteen swimmers have been selected from the whole of the Yorkshire swimming region based on results achieved at the 2008 National Age Group Championships. Those eligible are boys aged 11 to 14 and girls aged 11 to 13 that competed at the Nationals and the selection was based on the overall BAGCAT results which measures performance across the full range of different events.

Those selected are:

The camp is being held at the 50m pool facility at Calella, Spain and will run from 15th to 19th February. The format and organisation of the camp mirrors the British Swimming training camps and is designed to give promising young swimmers an experience of what they would face if selected to represent their country at a later date.

Chief Coach Dan Higgon said, “This is fantastic recognition for both the swimmers and the club and demonstrates the brilliant performance at the Nationals last year. For a small local club like CADS to provide four out of sixteen swimmers at this camp is incredible when you consider that the Yorkshire region includes cities like Sheffield, Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield, Hull, York, Harrogate and others. The swimmers deserve to be there – not only because of their talent but also because they put the hard work in to achieve these results”

Reflecting on the aims of the club he said: “Over recent years CADS has developed into a top performing club and we have a huge pool of talent coming through our squad structure. For some success may mean getting personal best times and competing at local galas, for others it may mean international recognition. Wherever swimmers figure in that range they are all important to the club. Ultimately what we are about is allowing every swimmer to fulfil their full potential.”
