County Champ Report 2007
CASA SHINE AT COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS
Cleethorpes & District Swimming Club & Scunthorpe Anchor Swimming Club took to their first County Championships as their new joint team CASA (Cleethorpes & Scunthorpe Aquatics) and produced exceptional swimming to put them on the swimming map.
The Championships were held on February 3 rd , 4 th , 24 th & 25 th at Leeds International Pool & on March 17 th , 18 th , 24 th & 25 th at Ponds Forge International Swimming Pool in Sheffield produced some of the best swimming either club had ever seen.
CASA won an amazing 5 Gold Medals, 3 Silver Medals & 7 Bronze Medals beating some of the top teams in the country.
The medals were further backed up by four 4 th placed finishes, 58 top ten finishes & a total of 48 finalists.
Out of the 244 swims that CASA had the swimmers also produced a sensational 238 personal best times.
The above results were made all the more amazing by not having one of CADS top swimmers (Zach Amin) in previous seasons competing at the Championship. Zach was committed to serious training in preparation for his debut at the British Long Course Championships (Senior Nationals) at the beginning of March.
County Champions were Oliver Webster (Boys 9 years 200 Butterfly, Breaststroke & 50 Butterfly), Georgia Cragg (Girls 10 years 50 Breaststroke) & Holly Smith (Girls 9 years 50 Breaststroke) all three swimmers train with Cleethorpes & District Swimming Club.
Other notable performances came from Sophie Long who collected numerous medals despite being ill on the first weekend of competition but recovered towards the end of the championships & just missed out on achieving her first National Time by 0.80 seconds on the 200 backstroke clocking an impressive 2.44.50.
The Scunthorpe swimmers also played their part making numerous finals and in CASA winning more medals by winning 2 bronze medals in the Girls 11 years Freestyle relay(Sophie Long, Alicia Snow, Francesca Stanford & Zoë Lansley-Hogg) & Boys 12 years Medley relay(Thomas Paine, William Dale, Scott Strong & Tobias Butler). The joint relay teams also made an astonishing 10 finals.
CADS Chief Coach Nathan Hilton said “The joint team has been amazing the kids have bonded really well and they have all contributed to this outstanding achievement. It is no surprise to me that we have achieved this success so early on in the joint venture as the kids have been working extremely hard in training & is just rewards for them.”
“I have seen these results coming for a couple of years but it takes time for the swimmers to come through the system. In the next couple of years we will be looking to put more swimmers on International Teams after Zach Amin's International debut at last years W.I.S.E. International swim meet.
I have known Dave Leeman (Scunthorpe Anchor's Chief Coach) since we coached together at Lincoln Vulcan's & it has been great working with such a forward thinking coach that is prepared to challenge himself and the kids in Scunthorpe's Programme.” |
