County Champ Results 2006

With a lot of the senior swimmers either ill, injured or missing due to other competitions it was down to the younger contingent of Cleethorpes & District S.C. to carry the torch for the club at this years county championships held at Leeds & Sheffield in February & March.

They did an excellent job making 37 finals winning 1 silver medal & 3 bronze medals with numerous fourth places just outside the medals. They also collected an impressive 156 personal best times.

Notable performances came from James Todd collecting a Bronze medal in the Senior 100 metres Butterfly, Toby Butler making the boys 11yrs 200 FC final & just missing out on his National Qualifying time, Tanya Oldridge making the girls 11 yrs 800 FC final & just missing out on her National Qualifying time, Thomas Paine & Zach Amin making numerous finals between them, Sophie Long building on last years success & making numerous finals & Molly Unwin & Georgia Cragg making finals on their County debuts at 9 years old.

Overall the championships were very successful & produced an impressive 23 qualifiers for District Championships (with various swimmers gaining qualification times but still being to young to compete) held in May & June at Ponds Forge International Pool in Sheffield.

In the thirty year history of the club they have never had this many District Qualifiers & with a record number already qualified for the County Champs it look like being one of CADS most successful seasons to date even with the success of recent times under the stewardship of Chief Coach Nathan Hilton.

Chief Coach Nathan Hilton said, “ With having some many swimmers out at the time of the counties I was totally & utterly surprised at the way the younger swimmers took on the mantle & produced some National Standard swimming against some of the strongest teams in the country let alone in the county. This all bodes well for the future of swimming in the area & just shows that with hard work & dedication we will be able to compete on a National level & in the future on an International Level.”

CADS are now refocusing their attentions to the upcoming District & National Championships with renewed belief that they can go on & achieve more success & bring home more medals from these two prestigious events both of which are to be held in Sheffield in May, June & July.

For those swimmers not mentioned above a massive well done because it was a truly exceptional tem performance at Counties this year. Well done to everyone concerned.
