5 MEDAL HAUL FOR CASA AT DISTRICT AGE GROUP CHAMPIONSHIPS

Competing against some of the biggest teams in the country CASA took to the water at Ponds Forge in Sheffield on 2 nd , 3 rd , 9 th , 10 th June at the ASANER District Age Group Champs coming away with an impressive 5 medals(1 Gold, 2 Silver & 2 Bronze) & once again proving that they are a force to be reckoned with.

CASA's attack spearhead by National Qualifiers Sophie Long (200free, 800free & 1500free) & Tobias Butler (1500free) produced some excellent results not least from Georgia Cragg who is too young to swim at National Championships this year but will have a good chance of getting there next year winning the Girls 10yrs 100 breast, second in the 200 breast & third in the 100 back. The other medals coming from Sophie Long on the Girls 11yrs 1500 free (3 rd ) & Callum Gladding on the Boys 10yrs 400 free (2 nd ). Callum is also too young to compete at National Champs but will have a good chance next year.

Overall CASA produced an impressive 32 finalists just missing out on numerous other medals finishing inside the top 5 on no less than 10 other occasions.

Notable performances over to 2 weekends include Tobias Butler achieving his first National time (1500 free) & making numerous other finals having endured a wretched 2 months of illness which had slowed his progress. Thomas Paine making 5 finals & just missing out on medals on every occasion.

The Scunthorpe swimmers who have been accessing additional training with Cleethorpes also proved that all the hard work is worthwhile with Kieran Skinner, Becky Moore & Lauren York all just missing out on making there first district final but with a bit more hard work they will no doubt be there next year.

Coach Nathan Hilton said “What an amazing couple of weekends the joint team is going from strength to strength with all the kids getting on brilliantly & with some great performances being achieved. A special mention must got to Sophie Long & Tobias Butler both qualifying for National Championships for the first time & both being ranked within the countries top 25 swimmers for their age.”
