A busy start to the year for swimmers from Cleethorpes & Scunthorpe Aquatics (CASA)

Two Open Competition on the same weekend saw a large number of swimmers travelling to either Ponds Forge in Sheffield for the Rotherham Metro Open Meet or to Liverpool for the City of Liverpool Open Meet.

Over two days at Ponds Forge 53 of our swimmers took part in a staggering 358 individual events, with many swimmers making the rostrum for their efforts, too many to name them all individually. The Swimmers achieved 90 County Qualifying Times and a number of District Qualifying Times. With CASA finishing in 4^th place on the Top Club table out of 33 clubs taking part.

However special mention must go to Natalie Sharman and Tom Wells who were overall Top Girl and Top Boy at the Meet, this is an outstanding achievement given the large number of swimmers taking part – a total of 398 girls and 317 boys!

For some local swimmers the Rotherham Meet was a sad occasion as it was the last time they would be swimming for Grimsby Santa Marina. GSM, which has had a 40-year history of competitive swimming in the town, has sadly folded. For their swimmers, a special goodbye notice was posted on the large scoreboard at Ponds Forge. Cleethorpes and District Swimming Club have now welcomed many of these swimmers into their club and they will now compete under the Cleethorpes & Scunthorpe Aquatics banner.

Although not as many swimmers travelled to the Level 1 meet at Liverpool Aquatics Centre they too achieved outstanding results. 14 swimmers competed in 77 events and amassed 75 County Champs Qualifying Times, 48 District Qualifying times and 3 National Youth Champs Qualifying times. 14yrs old Leah Altoft achieved her National times in 200M Butterfly, 200m Individual Medley and 400 Individual Medley with Leah winning 200 & 400 Individual Medley events.
